In Search of the Brontes

The Bronte Birthplace, Thornton

The village of Haworth in Yorkshire is well known as the home of the famous Bronte sisters, and is a well preserved tourist attraction. Less well known is Thornton, where they were all born. Fortunately their birthplace (shown in the hundred year old photo) has not changed at all. Our daughter Penny, who is a buildings archeologist, sought out the old chapel where they were baptised, and where the Revd. Patrick Bronte preached. Time has not served it well . As you can see only the back wall and the top of the bell-tower remain. It would be nice to think that heritage funds could be made available to preserve what little remains.
